Mosaic Monday :: Noël

This has been a swift Christmas - in no time at all, it will be over! I have to admit my decorating never really got off the ground since much of our belongings are still in boxes. I simply didn't feel ready. We did put up a tree, but I didn't put my favorite ornaments on it because of the "busy little fingers" phenomenen we have going on around here. Still, there are touches of Christmas throughout the house, and I'm thinking that might be the key for future Christmases around here. I rather like the idea of garlands, snowflakes, bowls of ornaments, wreaths, candles, fresh greens, and no tree. Keeping it simple by using what we have, and remembering that Christmas is really about having love, faith and joy in our hearts, being thankful for home and family, and most of all, honoring the reason for the season.

Mosaic Monday :: St Nick

While unwrapping our Christmas decorations I came across several jolly St Nicks, and thought they'd make a jolly mosaic. I also included a jolly kicking-up-his-heels reindeer, because he fit right into the silly Santa theme.

Mosaic Monday :: Chocolate

 

Chocolate is always a favorite, but somehow becomes even more so when the weather turns cold. What's better than hot chocolate, or warm brownies, or a secretly stashed candy bar brought out from hiding to indulge in when you're wearing a cozy robe and slippers? Not everyone likes chocolate, I know, but this girl loves it!

Mosaic Monday :: Autumn Rainbow

I can never get enough of autumn color! It's still rather hot here, but the elements have arrived. What we need now is a hint of morning frost to go with the mums, pumpkins, leaves, grapes, and acorns, then all will be right with the world.

Mosaic Monday :: Autumn Leaves

I am so happy that Fall is on it's way! I love the way the air smells with a hint of woodsmoke; I love the time change when it gets dark earlier; I love wearing layers of sweaters and scarves, and boots, too (so I need to get some this year); and I especially love the leaves with their glorious colors, and the sound of the crunch as you step on the ones that have fallen to the ground. Unfortunantly, our weather forecast for the next week or two is hot and windy (grrrr), but it's so normal for this time of year that I'm resigned to it. I'll just have to wait a little while longer for my favorite season to kick in!

Mosaic Monday :: A Flea Market

For my husband's birthday a few weeks ago, he invited me to our favorite flea market in Long Beach California. Browsing through flea markets is something I love to do, so it seemed more a present for me. I suppose I'll have to take him wherever he wants to go when my birthday comes around! We found some lovely treasures, including this tiny copper pot - I love the patina on it. We also found a perfect iron bed for our guest room - something we've been looking for - plus other little odds and ends. I marked it down as a very satisfying trip. I took lots of photos this time around, and decided to make a mosaic so this post wouldn't be 12 miles long (just click on the mosaic to see it larger). If you live in Southern California, this is a great flea market - not quite as large as the Rose Bowl so it feels a little more manageable, I think. I usually always find what I'm looking for, but even if I don't I've never come away empty-handed!

Mosaic Monday :: Calligraphy

I love the art of calligraphy. I once had a small business doing calligraphy for wedding invitations, place cards, and anything else that would look prettier in fine hand-lettering. It's a very time-consuming pasttime - a labor of love, really - so when my kids came along my calligraphy came to a standstill. That was many years ago, but I still like to keep fancy pen nibs and colored inks around, stored in an old ink-stained wooden box. I figure one day I might just take it up again!

Two of my favorite things! These are photos I've found on flickr and in my own files. Lavender and white linen compliment one another so very well, don't you agree?

And I know I've been a very bad blogger! There's a reason, though, in the form of two little grandsons who have come to stay with us for 4 months. We're adapting, but I'll find our groove - and, they'll give me a whole new subject to blog about. These boys are sooo adorable!

Mosaic Monday :: NYC

I was in New York last May, and my daughter and I took a train into the city one day. I'm finally going through the photos, so I made a mosaic of some of the sights. What an amazing place! Whenever I'm there we visit a different part of the city (because you certainly can't see it all at once!); this time we went up and down 5th Avenue. Penn Station, some ribbon shops, The Empire State Building, FAO Schwartz, The Plaza Hotel, Tiffany's, Central Park and back again, via a couple of taxis. And lunch in a fabulous Italian bistro. What a great day!
