To those of you stopping by from Tracey's Holiday Home Tour, welcome to a tour of my Christmas Tree! I must confess I don't have all my decorating finished yet. This season is shorter than usual and seems to be moving right along, so I'd better get busy!
One of the things I love about Christmas is bringing out the boxes of ornaments. We've collected enough over the past 30 years to allow for themes, which works quite nicely now that we're buying small trees. Last year we decided against putting up our tall faux tree and instead bought a little fresh-cut tree, which we loved, so we did the same again this year. It fits perfectly on top of a round table between the sofa and a chair, so it's right in the middle of the room instead of off in a corner. I saw a photo in Romantic Homes magazine where the tree was set into a galvanized pail, and so that's what we did, too. I found a pail that was just the right size (there's room for the tree stand inside) and although it's newish looking now, I'll keep it outdoors all year and let it weather - it ought to be perfectly aged by next Christmas!
My husband likes multi-colored lights, and I prefer clear twinkle lights. This year we have colored lights. It was Will's turn, finally - it's been my turn for the past 5 years or so! Or perhaps it was because the corgi ran off with the twinkle lights?
I pulled out all my favorite ornaments, mostly mercury glass and anything white, champagne, gold or silver, and scattered them among those colored lights. I must say it looks very festive! Then I had fun photographing several of them...
This glass ball with painted stars is an ornament I made about 10 years ago. Unbelievably, it's still in one piece, although a bit foggy!
And now, take yourself back to Tracey's to continue the Holiday Tour!
Very pretty and unique ornaments. I love the pail your tree is in. Is your tree also potted for later planting?
Blessings,
Sher

Thank you so much Jill for coming by and for your thoughts and prayers. Your blog is always so beautiful and inspiring. I've enjoyed so much looking through your ornaments today. It lifted my spirits! The pail is a wonderful idea and looks beautiful as is, but weathered will be even more incredible. xoxo

Your selection of ornaments are very elegant! I love the champagne color with the white and gold. Looks like a magazine spread to me! Also love the pail and the Corgi!

Those are beautiful ornaments! I also love white, champagne, gold & silver ornaments! It's funny...it seems women always like the white lights and men like the colored. Your doggy is adorable!

Your mercury glass is beautiful. Love it. And it was so kind of you to let your husband have the colored lights this year. :-)

Your tree is beautiful. We used to have the white vs. colored lights debate as well. Have you ever tried doing both? You cover the whole tree with white, then go back and add more lights (although I used fewer of the colored lights). It actually looks magical...try it and see what you think...

Hi Jill, your tree is lovely. My favorite Christmas decor is the Eiffel Tower ornament and your lovely decorated doggy. Must get some extra lights to decorate my pup too :) Hmmm, maybe battery operated lights??????
Blessings,
Sher

Wow, I really like the champagne colored bulbs...I noticed at Target yesterday they had many decorations in that color and a little darker, they were gorgeous. As is your tree. But I have to say your dog looks like he is smiling and enjoying all the festivities! Have a blessed Christmas.

Oh Jill, everything just sparkles! I like white lights on a tree too, but the colored lights sure look pretty in your photos. Thanks for sharing.

You have some amazingly beautiful pieces. Isn't Christmas wonderful! I guess we would get tired of all the sparkle if we had it up all year!
I would be willing to give it a try though.
Thanks so much for sharing!
