A Ghost Pumpkin

Well, hello! I know that I've become a once-a-month blogger, and I'm not sure how to get myself back into regular posting. I still love blogging, but I've indulged far more time into reading blogs than I have into writing my own.

 

But now it's truly Autumn, and more of the day is spent indoors where the computer is. Maybe this fact will help change my non-blogging ways?

Anyway, yesterday I pulled a coat out of the closet, for the first time since I put it in there last Spring, and went to a pumpkin patch to find a white pumpkin. I love the one I came home with - a ghost pumpkin with light blue spots. It pairs up quite nicely with the pink cosmos that's blooming in my garden, in my newest white pitcher from a local flea market. Love.

 

 

I've finally done a bit of seasonal decorating, too, and here it is mid-October already! I just couldn't pull out my Fall things when the temperature was hovering around 90° as it has been for the last few weeks. Now that it has cooled down, a wreath of nuts and berries is on the door and my collection of white ceramic pumpkins is in place on a table. Love Love.

Now it's beginning to feel like Autumn!

China Doll Pink

 

My petite China Doll Rose may be the smallest rosebush in the garden, but it definitely has the largest impact when it blooms. The branches will flower all at once with bubblegum pink roses.

 

 

This is just one stem!

I've paired it with cilantro which I know is an unlikely combination, but the cilantro is going crazy in my garden - one of the few plants that hasn't been chewed by some invisible toothy pest.

Irishness

Today is a typical Irish day - blustery and rainy. A "soft" day, as the Irish would say - cold and wet but still bright. However, with true Irish magic, not only is it windy and rainy but there's also some sunshine and a very large, vivid rainbow to the west. It's a good sign to see a rainbow on St Patrick's Day, don't you think?

December Rose

The weather here has been very, very, cold, which makes my white iceberg roses blush. I'm pleased they're still blooming, but I'm sure they'll soon disappear as Autumn wanes and Winter truly steps in. Then it will be time to cut them back completely, and wait for Spring.

Summer's End

My garden is still full of summer color, but I sense that seasonal magic in the air. Leaves are beginning to turn yellow and fall from the tree - the first sign that fall is approaching. I'm usually more than ready for Autumn to arrive, but this year I've had so much fun building my garden that I'll be sorry to see it fade. Once those leaves start accumulating on the ground, though, it's a done deal. So like it or not, it will soon be time to rest and plan for next Spring. Or rather, first rake all those leaves, then rest!

Pink Saturday 3

Today is the third birthday of Pink Saturday. A big thank you to our hostess Beverly for tirelessly promoting the color pink - a lot of people have shown a lot of pink each Saturday these three years, and I like the color more now than I ever did before!

Blushing Roses

The new roses in my garden are growing well.

The pink rosebushes are climbing the fence as I had hoped, although they won't get to the top for another year or so. And ever since I fed the white Iceberg roses with rose food...

they've been blushing pink around their edges!

Is that normal?  Whether or not it is, I like it!

Joie de Vivre

I'm finding that I appreciate Spring more than I used to. Now I think I could even say it's my favorite season. It's a time of energy, optimism, and new life, and after a long season of quiet and inwardness the freshness of Spring is bringing out the joie de vivre in me.

When I wake up in the morning I say the words I want the day to respond to, and they're words like glad, cheerful, flowers, joy, singing, blue sky, sunlight, birds... I feel lighthearted, and I'm so happy that it's time to open windows to let the spring air in, to dig around in the garden, to bring in fresh flowers... these are the things that make me smile.

What are the words that bring out the joie de vivre in  you?

Spring

It seems that Spring is really here now - the weather is warmer and I'm getting ideas about sprucing up the house and garden. That's always a sure sign of Spring!

Every morning I watch the birds outside my kitchen window, who put on a delightful show. There's a bird feeder in the tree that's always crowded with birds, so a few of them will kick some of the seed down onto the ground where another crowd of birds gathers around. Then it's as though the leader says "okay, on the count of three let's all fly to the fence... one, two, three!" And as one, the entire lot of them will take flight and head for the fence where they'll line up in a very long row, chatter awhile, then, in the same nano-second, they'll swoop down to the bird seed again. I love it! It's quite the morning show to go along with my coffee.

The birds must know the secret of the seasons - they're so cheerful and excited. What else could it mean but that Spring has arrived?
