October

It's October! My favorite month. It's when Fall usually triumphs over Summer, it's when pansies and pumpkins show up in the garden center, it's when I start thinking about future daffodils, it's when jackets and scarves come out from the far reaches of the closet, it's when the leaves change color, and it's also my birthday month.

Last night we had a fierce rainstorm, and when it passed I found a fat green frog sitting in a corner of my white garden shelf. I have no idea where he came from and in the morning he was gone. I love those rainstorms! I wish they happened more frequently because today is a beautiful day - coolish and clear, billowy white clouds in a blue sky, and a kiss of Autumn in the air.

Pink Roses in an Aqua Jar

When I have time, I love to play with photos. I have a folder full of textures and overlays now, some of which I made myself and others that I found online. The postmark and flowing script in this photograph were from images I usually use on the tin hearts I make, but they work quite well here too!

I recently discovered Kim Klassen and her blog - what talent! Her photography is just beautiful, even more so when she adds her own textures to photographs to create a wonderful vintage feeling. Every week she offers a free texture download so I quickly joined the club. If you have any inclination towards photography, I encourage you to check out her blog for inspiration.

Betwixt Spring and Summer

I hope everyone is having an amazing day today... one filled to the brim with the sparkle of Spring and the sunshine of summer!

Desert Flowers

I live in the high desert of California - high because it's about 3500 ft above sea level. This means it has four real seasons, which is nice because most of Southern California has only two - warm and not-so-warm. Springtime is especially beautiful here - the hills are green and covered with wildflowers in yellow, orange, violet, and white. Soon much of it will wither and become tumbleweeds, but it's a lovely show until the weather gets too hot. I drove around last week with my camera - I found some of these flowers along my walking route close to home, and others nearer to the mountains where the elevation is even higher. Seeing them blooming on hillsides and in valleys, in great patches of color against the brown and green, reminds me how blessed we are by God's handiwork - even in the desert!

White Wednesday

Spring is really almost here! Today is still only 40 degrees, but the sun is shining and the garden is beckoning. The days of straw hats and roses are nearly upon us! Can you sense it?

A camera lens is such an amazing thing. Through your eyes you see the whole picture, but through the lens you see just a bit of it - the details, elements, and particulars, many of which you might not have noticed otherwise. I've been finding a lot of white that I didn't really see before because it was part of everything around it. Through the lens, it becomes something quite different!

Mosaic Monday :: Old

Today, and likely tomorrow, I'm sitting close by my two grandsons - one has a stomach bug and the other has a waterfall coming out of his nose. I have a sinus headcold, so it should be fun. ...not! My mosaic today is one of old and vintage things. I pulled these photographs from my files - quick and easy is the name of the game for the next day or so!

I'll be counting up the entries for the Valentine box today, but with both boys clinging to me it might take a while! I'll post the winner as soon as I can.

That means Pink Saturday and Mosaic Monday, rolled together into one post. While looking back over the years' photos and trying to get them organised (it would be so much easier if I arranged folders for them ahead of time instead of having to sort a year's worth of photos all at once!), I noticed that I have a lot of photos with the word "pink" in the title. So this is a mosaic of the prettiest pink flowers, which are now sorted into their proper folders, and I'm even taking my own advice and getting some folders ready for photos yet to come. I know it will make Will happy because he always complains about my messy desktop (even though it's just a computer desktop and the mess is rather neatly contained within a grid, which I don't think looks particularly messy). I'm pleased to report that at this moment it looks very empty and tidy... a clean slate for the new year.

Mosaic Monday :: Tick Tock

Happy New Year everyone! Here we are, already three days into the new year! Time seems to move so fast these days - it doesn't seem possible that we're starting the second decade of the 21st century, does it? Thinking about time, I noticed that around our house we prefer old-fashioned clocks with numerals, and I thought they'd make an interesting mosaic.
